Coronavirus or COVID 19 was first discovered in Wuhan, China on December 2019 and has spread over to the entire world. Statistics have shown that there are 21.8 million confirmed cases worldwide, meanwhile 9,224 cases in Malaysia and 23,870 cases in Australia. The number of cases is increasing day by day and its quite alarming as there is still no vaccine for the virus. In Malaysia, we have experienced the Movement Control Order for two months and Recovery Movement Control Order until the end of August. Meanwhile, in Australia they are currently having the second lockdown since the numbers of positive cases there is quite high. Living in a situation like this, we have to take extra precautions such as wearing a mask, use hand sanitizer and keep a distance of at least 1 meter away from anybody. During this pandemic, we are all affected mentally and physically. Thus, keep on reading as you may find ways to stay motivated during the lockdown and you would probably find point number five quite useful! Enjoy!
Stay connected
As a human being, it is our nature to communicate and stay connected with each other regardless of where we are and what situation we are facing. COVID 19 has changed the way we live now with us being at home during the lockdown, we probably like the idea of being alone at home. However, please do not isolate yourself. Do stay connected with your family, friends and your colleague. With all the technology we have access to now such as Whatsapp, Facetime, Skype, Zoom and many more we can make full use of it to communicate with our loved ones. Talk to each other as often as you can, check each other’s well-being especially during the lockdown, a short phone call or a simple hello can make someone’s day. We will never know what is going on until we have the courtesy to call and ask if they are okay. What more important is, we check on the elderly in our family like our parents or grandparents. This lockdown can be pretty hard on them, so do not forget to call or video call you family okay?
Exercise regularly
We enjoy our time at home so much but that doesn’t mean that we have to just stay idle at home, get up and move around! If you are concern about going outdoor to exercise, you can opt to exercise indoor. There are plenty of home workout videos you can find on Youtube. Hence, there shouldn’t be excuses on not to exercising or sweat your body out during the pandemic. Try out something fun with your family, organize a Zumba session with them every evening and get everyone to involve. This can be a very fun activity to do with your loved ones. During the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in Malaysia, gym and fitness centers can finally resume their business. If you have a gym membership, you can finally go back there and continue your workout routines. However, do follow the center’s SOP before entering the premise and while you are exercising. Have fun working on that torso!
Explore something new
Being at home for the longest time of our life can be so tiring and could lead to a mental block. If this happens, try to develop new hobbies and skills during the long holidays. There are so many recipes went viral for the past few months that you can try. Well, this is the time where you can channel your inner Gordon Ramsey or even a coffee barista. If you are a coffee lover, I bet you have heard about Dalgona Coffee, right? You can try coming up with your own rendition of Dalgona Coffee and voila! You are now a barista in the family. This is the right time for you to explore the new potential that you have yet to discover. You can even brush up your any of your skills during this long holiday, or maybe you can start Marie Kondo-ing your stuffs! This is the right time for you to reorganize or start organizing your home to make it homier and more comfortable.
Go outside and take a break / go outside for leisure
Step outside, take a walk around your house compound and enjoy the fresh air. It could lift up your mood after staying at home for so many days, especially if you are working from home. If you have a backyard or a spacious lawn, organize a picnic with your family member. Being stuck at home for a few months especially when this is the second wave of COVID, can be hard. Hence, a picnic and a yoga sesh with your loved ones could help you refresh and rejuvenate your physical and mental health. To make it even better, you can now take a walk at the park or even go for a jog, but make sure not to wear your mask while jogging and wear it after. Also, please keep a distance of at least 1 meter away and avoid physical contact with other people.
